PHUKET: Following the success of the inaugural Phuket Surf Lifesaving Carnival last year, organizers have slashed the entrance fee for the 2009 competition in a bid to attract even more competitors.
The entrance fee has been reduced to just 100 baht and contestants will receive a lunch box and an event T-shirt (while stocks last).
The carnival is being held at Loma Park at Patong Beach on October 3.
Registration for the event will take place at 8.30am and the carnival will officially open at 9am.
This year there are categories for all age groups, ranging from under-15s to over-50s, while a category for Thai nationals has been introduced as part of an effort by the organizers to promote water safety and skills within the Thai community.
The event is organized by The Phuket Lifeguard Club, a non-profit organization established in 2003.
The Phuket Lifeguard Club conducts regular training programs for local adults and children in water safety, rescue, first aid and beach management skills.
Club members are mainly Thai, are trained to Australian Surf Life Saving standards and work in hotels as sea and pool lifeguards.
A Gala dinner will be held at Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort at 7pm. Tickets cost 300 baht per person.
