Batteries die quicker in Thailand

Can you explain why “lead acid” car batteries last only a maximum of two years here in Thailand?

I know lead acid batteries. It was my job to look after them and even when I was sailing continuously in the tropics I always had a minimum five years’ life out of them.

I recently had to change the battery in my six-year-old Honda City for the third time, and I bet that come July or August in two years’ time, I’ll be writing this letter to you again.

“Car batteries are subject to heat and humidity in this part of the world, which leads them to deteriorate fairly rapidly. But the real answer to your question is that they are built to a price and are not designed to last.”
