A neighbor who recently built a house next to mine also built a metal cage for his pet – an adult peacock. This large bird squawks every morning and evening and has now started squawking at 4am, just 10 meters from my bedroom, waking me with a start. The bird seems very unhappy in its cramped cage and I would like to know if it is legal to own an animal like this and whether there are any laws to protect my right to a good night’s sleep.

“Everyone who owns a peacock must be able to present official paper work. With regards to your night’s sleep, the first thing you should do is go to the complaints section on the third floor of Phuket City Hall office in Phuket City and fill out a letter of complaint. An officer will ask you for more information about the problem and then after two or three days will go to talk to the peacock’s owner. If you still have a problem, please contact Phuket City Hall and an officer will come back a second time.
