On Sunday, I drove my motorbike to Paradise Beach in Patong with a view to having a stroll on the sand and then maybe a couple of beers.
A guy working there told me I had to pay 100 baht to walk on the beach and got very angry when I refused to pay.
He then told me that I would have to leave if I wouldn’t pay the fee.
I thought all beaches were owned by HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej. What is the situation?

Paradise Beach is becoming increasingly popular now, but it remains a free beach, unlike some others on the island.
They can charge you for parking your car or motorbike, and for a sunbed should you choose to hire one, but asking for money to walk on the beach is not right.
