PATONG: Activities being held as part of the Phuket Carnival 2007 will run from from 1 pm to 10 pm daily. These will take place in differently-colored zones, where workshops, games, food and exhibitions will offer everything from an exhibition of photographs taken by HM The King to delicious seafood to carnival dart games.
The zones are as follows:
Yellow zone – Corner of beach road and Soi Bangla. This area will contain exhibits and information about HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej, including a display of his photography and songs he has composed.
Purple zone – Soi Bangla. Patong’s famous nightlife street will be decorated as one, long counter bar. Food and beverages will be sold in this area, as will an instant photo service for attendees who would like to have their photo taken as souvenirs.
Brown zone – Loma Park. Booths will display crafts and products created under for the One Tambon One Product (OTOP) initiative.
There will be shows by local performers, including nang talung shadow puppet plays and performances of the traditional Southern-Thai manohrah dance, as well as displays of traditional Thai costumes and workshops on how to make batik clothes and sea pearl ornaments.
Orange zone – beach road and Patong Beach. Various carnival games and beach sports will be played all day, with famous Thai actors and actresses joining the fun.
Light Blue zone – beach road. This section will contain seafood stalls from famous restaurants and seafood vendors in Phuket.
Blue zone – beach road. In this area tourism information will be offered from many travel agencies and associations in Phuket.
White zone – beach road. Phuket art and culture, including works by local artists, will be on show. Carnival attendees can have their portraits painted by local professional artists.
Pink zone – beach road. About 300 spa therapists will be on site to provide foot massages and body rubs. Booths from Phuket’s hair salons and local spas will provide their services along with health and beauty consultations.
Stage activities
Red zone – Soi Bangla. A large stage erected on Soi Bangla will showcase magic and “fire-swing” shows daily from 9 pm to 10:30 pm. Also dubbed the “party zone”, the area will host DJ foam parties and a cocktail drinking contest.
Green zone – Loma Park. The main stage, called the “Chill out stage”, will be the venue for the opening ceremony lead by Deputy Prime Minister Kosit Panpiemras at 6:30 pm on November 1.
Concerts and other performances will be held daily from 6 pm to 10 pm.
This year, the celebrated theme is “Art, Culture and Fun” represented by decorations, concerts and activities at Patong Beach. Part of the festival is dedicated to HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej in honor of his 80th birthday, with exhibitions displaying royal activities and projects. People are encouraged to wear yellow for the opening ceremony in his honor.

November 1
Opening ceremony at Loma Park
6:30 pm Commerce Minister Krerkkrai Jeerapat to preside over the opening ceremony, which will include speeches by Phuket Governor Niran Kalayanamit and Patong Mayor Pian Keesin
7:05 pm Candle-lighting ceremony on Patong Beach, followed by The Super Dance Acapella Band singing Phor Khong Pan Din (Father of the Nation).
