Crushed under an elevator at Patong Hotel
32 year old Suthep Lookyee, working as a hotel bellboy, has died when squashed under the hotel elevator trying to retrieve his keys.
The accident happened in a hotel in Patong (name provided but not published) on the basement floor in the elevator service area.
Investigators say Suthep dropped the keys into the elevator shaft so he went down to the basement to find them. He got into the elevator cavity without informing anyone what he was doing. Whilst looking for the keys a customer on another floor used the elevator and the hydraulic equipment underneath the elevator carriage rolled down and crushed him.
His body’s been taken to Patong Hospital for examination. Police say it appears to have been a tragic accident and have contacted Suthep’s parents who live in Krabi. Forensic police are continuing their investigation at the hotel.
