Angry Phuket minivan driver pulls big knife in traffic [video]

PHUKET: A road-raging minivan driver was caught brandishing a long knife at the driver of a pickup truck on Thepkrasattri Road yesterday afternoon.

The video clip shows the driver of the van waving what appears to be a machete or a small sword as he passes the truck in the left lane.

“I saw the clip last night. We will call company officials, as well as the driver in for questioning,” said Jaturong Kaewkasi, the chief policy adviser for the Phuket Land Transport Office.

“For a first-time offence he will only receive a fine. However, if he does it again, we will suspend his driver’s licence.

“We must take strong actions against such behavior, as it can destroy the island’s reputation.”

Thalang Police Superintendent Chanuchan Cholsuwat confirmed to the Phuket Gazette that he was also aware of the incident.

“The video clearly shows the licence plate number and the company that the van belongs to. We are in the process of bringing them down to the station for questioning,” Col Chanuchan said. “We will wait until after we have questioned the driver to decide whether or not to charge him.”
