B32mn set aside for Phase 3 of Phuket Town’s cable clean-up

PHUKET: A budget of 32 million baht has been set aside for Phase 3 of the project to hide unsightly cables underground in picturesque Old Phuket Town.

This stage of the project is expected to focus on Yaowarat, Rassada, Phang Nga, and Montri roads.

“Right now we are moving into the third phase. Phuket City Municipality will work closely with the Phuket Provincial Electricity Authority [PPEA] and the TOT and CAT telephone companies to make sure the roads are left looking attractive and beautiful – free from unsightly overhead cables,” Phuket City Municipality’s Engineering Division head Kriangsak Choochatpong told the Phuket Gazette this morning.

“The purpose of this operation, which will begin with the PPEA removing the power poles, is to improve the view and reduce risks for both drivers and pedestrians,” Mr Kriangsak added.

Plans on how to tackle Phase 3 and when the project will start will be on the agenda of a meeting held tomorrow between Phuket Town officials and contractors, Mr Kriangsak noted.

“After discussing operations with the contractors we will be able to provide you with more details,” he said.

The Phuket Town overhead cable clean-up is expected to be completed in 2015.
