Bangla shooter charged for attempted murder

PHUKET: A man wanted for shooting another four times in Bangla early yesterday morning surrendered to police that same afternoon, after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The shooter, Thanapon Pankaew, also handed over a 9mm pistol and magazine that he admittedly used during the altercation.

The victim, Sayan Padungsap, 35, was shot four times and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Vachira Phuket Hospital (story here). He is now reported to be out of the ICU and in recovery.

Mr Thanapon confessed to shooting Mr Sayan out of anger, after the latter allegedly insulted his parents.

“Both men are employed by a local businessman in Patong. Mr Thanapon was not satisfied with the services rendered by Mr Sayan and went outside to talk things over. However, the two could not settle the matter and got into a fight, which led to the shooting,” said Maj Teerasak Boonsang of the Patong police.

Mr Thanapon was charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm and ammunition without a permit, as well as carrying a firearm in public without a permit.
