Flash floods hit Chalong

PHUKET: Heavy rains drenched Chalong, causing flash floods, while other parts of the island have remained sunny today.

Lt Chollada Chokdeesrijun of the Chalong Police warned motorists to beware of flooding in the area after nearly an hour of heavy rain fall.

“Small vehicles have started to be able to pass the area, as the water level is getting lower,” said Lt Chollada. “Meanwhile, please drive with caution.”

No weather warning has been issued for the island, confirmed Santhawat Riwleung, chief of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) Phuket Office.

“According to the Thai Meteorological Department [TMD], the weather forecast indicates that a ridge of high pressure remains covering the north of Thailand. Rain and slight drops in temperature are likely in the upper north and the northeast,” Mr Santhawat said. “The rain is expected to affect Phuket in about two weeks time.”
