Kamala Beach cleared of trash

PHUKET: Kamala Beach is looking cleaner after trash was cleared from its sands by local authorities acting on demands from nearby business operators.

Kamala Administration Organization (OrBorTor) responded to reports sent to the Phuket Gazette about rubbish piling up at the beach by swinging into action with two brand new ‘green’ garbage trucks.

Until recently, the municipality was barely getting by with just one garbage truck in desperate need of replacement.

OrBorTor
President Karun Sriden said that being a tourist attraction, Kamala Beach was prone to accumulating rubbish left by tourists.

“The area is so vast that it is very difficult to control all of the garbage dumping in the area, so local officials have been on the lookout for errant piles of trash. We have also launched a public relations campaign using billboards to encourage locals and tourists to dispose of rubbish properly” said Mr Karun.

“With the new garbage trucks, we are taking more rubbish directly to the Saphan Hin incinerator every morning and evening.”

Any complaints about uncollected garbage in Kamala can be directed to the Kamala Municipality Offices at 076-385 6401, Monday through Friday, from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
