Phuket number plate auction raises B22mn for crash victims

PHUKET: The sale of lucky licence plates raised 22 million baht this week to fund road safety campaigns and rehabilitation programs for traffic accident victims.

More than 300 lucky licence plates were auctioned off at the 11th annual two-day event organized by the Phuket Land Transport Office (PLTO) and held at the Phuket Merlin Hotel on May 21 and 22.

“The highest bid was 1,111,111 baht for the luckiest plate of them all: Gor Ror 9999. The lowest bid was for Kor Ror 6060, which fetched 23,000 baht,” said PLTO Duputy Chief Nanthapong Cherdchu.

“Altogether, the annual licence plate auctions have raised just over 195 million baht. The money raised is used to buy wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs for people who are seriously injured or disabled in road accidents,” said Mr Nanthapong.
