Russian man who disappeared into sea found drowned in Phuket

PHUKET: The body of a Russian man who walked into the sea and disappeared on Wednesday night after an argument with his girlfriend was discovered this morning.

“We were alerted by a local that a body was found floating between Freedom Beach and Paradise Beach at about 9am,” Sampawat Wannasangkam of the Patong Municipality Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) told the Phuket Gazette.

“Our team and Kusoldharm Foundation rescue workers went to recover the body, which was then taken to Patong Hospital.”

The man’s friends were contacted to confirm his identity.

“The friends identified the body as Pavel Mironov,” confirmed Lt Col Pratuang Polmana of the Patong Police.

The 27-year-old man was last seen drinking with friends on Kalim Beach late at night when he got in an argument with his girlfriend and walked into the sea. Rescue workers scoured the sea and sand all night before calling off their search at sunrise yesterday (story here).

The Russian embassy has been contacted.
