Tourist drowns at Kata Noi Beach

PHUKET: A Chinese tourist drowned after being swept out to sea from a red-flag zone at Kata Noi Beach late yesterday afternoon.

“According to witnesses, 26-year-old Junan Liu and his friend ignored warning signs and were playing in an unsafe section of the water when a big wave struck him and dragged him out to sea,” said Lt Chatree Chuwichian of the Karon Police.

“Hotel lifeguards jumped into action, but by the time they had recovered Mr Lui, he was already dead.”

The Chinese Embassy was informed of the death, and Mr Lui’s body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital.
