Tourists thanked by Ao Nang officials for beach cleaning

KRABI: Public officials in Krabi began picking up trash that had washed ashore along a two kilometer stretch of Ao Nang beach yesterday.

The officers were joined by private companies, as well as tourists, who pitched in to clear the beach after the heavy rains and strong surf washed trash up along the Ao Nang shoreline.

Krabi officials said they were concerned about the effects of the trash on Krabi’s main tourist attraction, as Ao Nang’s white beaches were turned brown and black by the plastics and unnatural trash strewn about its shores.

“We really appreciate the tourists who came out today to help us pick up trash off the beach,” Muang Krabi District Chief Suriyun Damrongkul told the Phuket Gazette. “The plastics and trash littering the shoreline pose a big problem for Krabi tourism.”
