PHUKET: Today is Children’s Day, and youngsters across the island are being feted with games, prizes, and free food and drink in the annual celebration.
In Phuket Town, Governor Maitri Inthusut hosted activities at his official residence, including a tour, while other events were underway at Provincial Hall and Saphan Hin. At a celebration sponsored by Phuket Marine Police, the big attraction was being allowed to hold a real M16 rifle.
Bicycles were given away as prizes at the Governor's mansion, and gifts as well as free food and drink were offered to children and their parents.
Youngster Janjao won a bicycle, while fellow youth Tae reported, “We are having a lot of fun. Thank you for the food and fun games.”
Governor Maitri noted how important children are to society.
“Children will grow up to be the adults who drive the country forward. We adults must be great role models for them, so they pick up only good habits and become good adults in the future,” he said.
“Have fun everyone. It is your day. Be a good kid and have a safe trip home,” he added.
As part of the celebrations held islandwide today, Thai celebrity Woranut “Noon” Bhirombhakdi, star of one of last year’s most popular soap operas, Thong Nuea Kao
, is scheduled to perform a mini-concert on the stage at Provincial Hall at 2pm.
