Phuket Lifestyle: A Rotary roundup; Golf tourney

PHUKET: Members of the Rotary Club of Patong Beach recently purchased some much-needed necessities for the Banjo school for migrant workers with money raised by the club.

"Supercheap arrived at the school and assembled the goods one hour before they were expected," said Club member Patricia Mitchell. "Consequently, Stewart and I arrived to find the children and teachers happy and excited over their new bookshelf units, lockable lockers for the teachers, dust bins, rakes and brooms. And one self-defrosting fridge for their milk... and lunches."

Mrs Mitchell added that the club could now focus on installing door locks, securing the windows with something to keep people out and the school stuff inside and getting some new books. "It is a good feeling to go out there (Cherng Talay) and see how these children are learning... and how bright they are. Also cute." she said.

The Banjo playground area has been approved by the owner of the land, Mr Veerasak, and a cleanup can hopefully be done between the club and the Navy, she added.
