PHUKET: Police are hunting for the killers of a foreign man and woman who were found brutally murdered on Koh Tao, in the Pha-ngan district of Surat Thani province.

Surat Thani police chief Lt Gen Panya Mamen boarded a helicopter to the island, which is one of Thailand’s most popular areas for foreigners enjoying scuba diving.

Gen Panya ordered police to seal off the island in a bid to find the killers.

It is believed that the female victim was raped before she was murdered. Police are still trying to identify the victims.

Villagers on the island were cooperating with police in hunting for the killers, who are believed to number two or perhaps three individuals.

Initial investigations revealed that a party was held on the beach last night, about 100 meters from where the bodies were found.
