A cow of a day

NAKHON SRI THAMMARAT: Cows, women, motorcycle owners and rubber plantation workers in Nakhon Sri Thammarat’s Tung Song will sleep better this month in the knowledge that an ex-convict is back in police custody after confessing to a spate of motorbike thefts and some thoroughly repugnant crimes. Tung Song police pulled over the suspect, 37-year-old Boontham Chanasongkraam, as he was riding a stolen Honda Dream – weighed down with 30 sheets of dried rubber – along the Tung Song-Nakorn Sri Thammarat Rd on August 2. The suspect submitted to being arrested without struggle and confessed to having stolen the Honda. He explained that the vehicle was actually the fifth motorbike he had stolen since release from prison in early July, where he had done time on a previous theft conviction. He told police that he would drive a stolen motorbike “until he got bored”, then he would abandon it and steal another. He also confessed to having stolen the rubber mats from a villager, adding that he was on his way to sell them at a market. Apparently in the mood to confess, he also told the officers that he had an unusually high sex drive and that he had previously “raped” a cow and been prosecuted for “cruelty to an animal”. As if this weren’t enough, he also admitted to another rape – this time on a woman who didn’t press charges. With the cow-rapist leading the way, police managed to recover four of the ditched motorcycles from Tung Song and surrounding districts before bringing him in to file charges.
