When will the Kathu detour end?

Construction work at the Tung Tong intersection is creating unsafe traffic conditions. The diverted traffic onto Wichit Songkram Rd has made that road so overcrowded that motorists and cyclists are making dangerous moves just to get on the road.

When will these roadworks be finished? This is a real inconvenience for westbound traffic heading to Patong that is now being re-routed all the way around because the work.

The construction work is to install a water pump and drains under Phra Phuket Kaew Rd. It is part of a Kathu Municipality project that should be finished by December 15.

The drains have been installed. All that is left to do is to install the pump station.

We had to close [one lane of] the road for safety reasons so that it does not collapse while work is underway. We expect some subsidence, but will ensure that it is safe before reopening it to traffic.

When construction began in October we asked Tung Tong Police to control the traffic there.

We are doing the best we can under the circumstances. We have put out orange cones and traffic signs and appointed traffic police to supervise traffic during the rush hours, at 8 am and 4 pm.

It is important that drivers do their part by strictly adhering to traffic safety rules. As this is a residential area, drivers should not be driving over 40 kilometers per hour.
