(Not in any particular order)

Since I came to the island for the first time six years ago, Phuket has developed quite a coffee culture with new cafés opening every week all over the island. The Thais love their iced coffee drowned in sweetened condensed milk whilst the western favourites are gaining in popularity. You’re now hard-pressed not to find good coffee around Phuket. From the lower cost to some of the more sophisticated surrounds, here are my favourites.

  • 1. Graham Coffee, Kathu

Not all coffee shop need to have expensive furniture, merchandise and their own brand coffee on display. Some are simple, small and cosy. Just like this Thai-run coffee boutique in Kathu.

  • 2. Rush Coffee, Samkong

Situated at the Chillva Market in Samkong, this tiny coffee shop is open during the day even when the market is in full swing. Thai staff, lots of light and open 7 days a week.

  • 3. Coffee Tribes, Rawai

Head south for the delights of Coffee Tribe in Rawai. Always busy, family atmosphere, assortment of great cakes and healthy options. And, of course, great coffee. A hidden gem.

  • 4. Café Station, Paklok

Heading towards Paklok this time, about one kilometre east of Heroines Monument, a family-run affair with a light, bright feel and the most astonishing home-made cakes. Take your appetite to this one.

  • 5. Ice Studio Coffee, Kathu

Situated on Prah Phuket Keow Road, opposite the blue Dcondo. It started as a place to wait for the people getting their cars cleaned at the adjoining car wash but it’s grown into a magic little coffee shop. Simple, inexpensive, great coffee.

  • 6. Coffee Beans & Greens, Central Festival

If you need a coffee whilst hanging around a big shopping centre then head to Coffee Beans & Greens in Central Festival. Always fresh, good quality coffee as well as plenty of other options if you’re having a non-coffee day (is there such a thing?!).

  • 7. Coffee Lab, Cherngtalay

A local favourite that gets plenty of votes and recommendations. Their own coffee brand ‘Andaman Blue’ is roasted right here in Phuket. They take their coffee seriously and deserve to be ranked in the island’s Top Ten.

  • 8. Delish Café, Chalong

One of southern Phuket’s best boutique cafés run by an Australian couple who clearly know their coffee. Both healthy and really naughty cakes and meals available as well.

  • 9. WeCafe, Chalong

There’s a really cool back story to this place (now ‘places’ with WeCafe 2 now open in Samkong. Thai run and managed with excellent coffee of all styles. They also grow their own hydroponic lettuces which they sell around Phuket.
