Double fatality in Krabi bus crash

In what’s been a horror week on Thailand’s roads, two people have been killed and another six injured after a tour bus crashed into a pickup at an intersection in Krabi last night around 10pm (March 23).

The double-decker bus was heading to Krabi Airport to pick up tourists. The accident happened in the Ao Luek district of Krabi. Witnesses say the two vehicles collided at the intersection with the two approaching from opposite directions. The bus and pick-up careered off the road into power poles and nearby shops.

According to police, the 40 year old driver was driving to Krabi Airport from Phuket. They say he was taking his family – his wife, a 3 year old son, 3 month old daughter and an employee of the charter company. The pick-up was driven by a 48 year old travelling with two passengers. The bus driver’s 3 year old son and the driver of the pick-up died in the crash.

Police say, from the wreckage of the scene, it appears that both vehicles collided at high speed.

All other passengers were pulled from the vehicles by emergency responders and taken to the Ao Luek Hospital.

The incident follows another bus crash of a Chinese Tour Bus on Kata Hill last night. In that crash no one was seriously injured. Story HERE. This week there was also an accident in Nakhon Rachisima killing 18 and a bus crash in Ayutthaya injuring 20 students the day after. On Monday and Tuesday this week there were two passenger van crashes in Phang Nga – the Monday accident killed two.
