Paklok monkeys to be sterilised and moved away

After a second public hearing gathering about 50 locals of Baan Yamu in Paklok, who have all had problems with monkeys destroying their valuables, the Chief of Khao Phra Theao non-hunting area, Pongchat Chuahom, says the monkeys will be sterilised, receive a health checkup and then moved to a new home.

The meeting chaired by Paklok’s Mayor, Punya Sampaorat, agreed to ask the Department of Natural Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) to help manage the problem. The local department involved will coordinate and seek permission from the DNP to conduct the sterilisations, do medical checkups for the monkeys, then move them to a proper area which will be considered at another meeting.
