Phuket public transport service centre kicks off

The central pillar of Phuket public transportation was launched yesterday (March 16) at the Phuket Bus Terminal 2 on Thepkassatri Road, aiming to become a one-stop-shop where people can call for car taxis and motorbike taxis.

The automatic system to call for taxi services is expected to help solve problems relating to taxi fees and service standards as well as security standards.

“The automatic queueing machine has been applied in many offices, both at the government and private sector. This will help solve the rip-off taxi fees and improve the general standards of service, which has become a long term problem,” said Chief of Rassada Municipality’s Secretary Office.

“It will organise the taxis and force them to raise their service standards and ensure quality in all aspects – pricing, appearance, safety – and invite people to use these public transport services more often while decreasing the use of private vehicles.”

“This is a joint effort with the national police, Thailand 4.0 and Phuket Smart City Policy and the Ministry of Transport to create a smart public transportation system. Our targets are both local people and tourists, who mainly use public transportation.
