PCs4Kids needs your help

PHUKET: PCs4Kids is a voluntary organization which re-builds functioning computers from donated components. The computers are then given to under-privileged kids in Phuket. In this way, they can get a chance to learn skills which will support a future career, whether it’s in IT, business or academia.

Since the launch of our charity group last year, we have re-built 26 PCs. Now we need more used computer parts; monitors, graphics cards, keyboards: anything in fact. If you are able to help with old components, please drop them off at Khun Woody’s Sandwich Shoppes, located in the Fisherman Way Business Centre, Chalong, or in Aroonsom Plaza, Patong.

The charity is supported by the Rotary Club of Patong Beach who initially donated 30,000 baht to get things started. Their kind endorsement by the Rotary District Foundation (which encompasses all Rotary Clubs in Thailand) means that we now have official charity status. On the back of this, we have approached Microsoft for help in supplying Windows licences for the re-built computers. We hope that this initiative will come to fruition.

The headmaster of The Rachaprachanukroh 36 School in Kamala, Khun Sawat Bunjongpas has approved our concept. The school is the first to allow their students to become recipients of the re-furbished computers. Our first recipient is 15 year old (Oh) Aniwat Plomtong who was pleasantly pleased to be able to receive the first computer from PCs4Kids.

PCs4Kids‘ long term goal is to help Thai children get a chance to develop a rewarding career. At the same time, by gathering like-minded students and adults to learn together, we create a sense of community.

This high-tech world we take for granted, gives us an awesome ability to unlock a wealth of knowledge, but we all needed help to find the key.
