Another one bites the dust: illegal building removed from Phuket beach

PHUKET: One illegal building was removed from Phuket’s Nai Yang Beach by officials yesterday.

Daeng Lawlang, the owner of the illegal building, was ordered to remove it by October 16.

Though Mr Daeng has a Sor Kor 1 land title for about two rai of beachfront property, the building and some smaller structures were constructed beyond his property boundaries.

“The owner was able to demolish some of the smaller structures before the deadline. However, the large building required a backhoe, so we took care of it for him today,” said Mr Sumeth yesterday.

“There are so many illegal buildings in the area. This is just one more plot of land returned to the public. However, there will be more.”

Cases for several structures believed to be encroaching on public land have yet to be ruled on by the court, Mr Sumeth noted.

“Our job right now is to take back public land. Nobody will escape the long arms of the law – the beach is ours,” Mr Sumeth said.
