Breaking News: Phuket tourists rescued from sinking boat off Phi Phi

PHUKET: All 47 European and Asian tourists and five crewmen have been safely rescued from a Phuket tour boat that started taking on water in Phang Nga Bay earlier today.

Capt Wichai Chairap, 40, called for help after the tour boat Andavaree 919 started to struggle amid strong waves near Koh Gai off the coast of Krabi at 11:30am.

The tour company, Andavaree Tour, quickly dispatched two speedboats to render assistance.

One of the rescue boats returned to Phuket, arriving at Chalong Pier at 12:30pm with 21 tourists on board.

The other rescue boat safely delivered the remaining tourists to Phi Phi Island.

“Some of the tourists weren’t feeling well after their experience and asked to be brought back to Phuket, while the rest asked to continue their trip to Phi Phi,” Lt Col Panya Chaichana of the Phuket Marine Police told the Phuket Gazette.
