Briton wins PEGS tournament

PHUKET: Andrew Marshall of the UK scored 42 points off of a handicap of 17 on Thursday, beating some 60 other players and winning the monthly Stableford tournament of the Phuket Expat Golf Society (PEGS). Second in the tournament, on the Blue Canyon Country Club’s Canyon Course, was American lawyer Brad Moore, a five-handicapper, who scored 39 points. South African guest Neale Avery, a two-handicapper, won the low gross cup. He shot a 74, as did Moore and Blue Canyon’s general manager, Martin Carpenter. Avery won the prize on a count-back. He also took the long-drive competition. The winner of Flight B was Bill Main, an American travel-company executive, who played one stroke better than his 20 handicap to total 37 points. Flight C was won by David Thurston of Britain, with 28 points off of his 36 handicap. Nearest-the-pin prizes were handed out to Carpenter, Tom Richmond, Michael Weinstein and Herbert Schmidt. The next monthly tournament will be held at the Thai Muang Beach and Golf Club on Thursday, May 25, starting at 11 am.
