Center for disabled to open soon

PHUKET TOWN: A new training center for the disabled will open next month on Montri Rd, opposite the Seng Ho bookstore. Formerly a government warehouse, the two-story center will have classrooms and a meeting room equipped for training in computer skills, arts and crafts, languages and other studies. Sawai Promjinda, President of the Phuket Association of Disabled People (ADP), said today that there are about 1,160 handicapped adults and children in Phuket, but that only a small percentage had jobs. Volunteers will help with training, and running costs will come from donations. The center is due to open on November 27. For more information, call Christianne Kitchakarn at 01-8930880 or the ADP at 076-232082.
