Governor denies rumors of transfer over Phuket riot

PHUKET: Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada yesterday denied that he would be transferred from the province due to the Thalang riot.

“Due to the recent rumor that I will be transferred from the island, which is confusing people, I would like to assure you that I have yet tor receive such an order,” Governor Chamroen wrote on his Facebook fan page. “Only the Ministry of Interior has the authority to transfer me.”

The Governor asked that people be careful about what information they choose to believe and share via social media.

“However, if I do receive a transfer notice from the Ministry, I will follow the orders of my superiors,” he added.

Governor Chamroen, a Phuket native and previous vice governor on the island, took up his most recent post at the beginning of the month (video report here).
