Governor leads Big Cleaning Day event

PHUKET: Governor Nisit Jansomwong led about 300 people in a ‘Big Cleaning Day’ event along Thepkrasattri Road on Thursday morning in honor of HM Queen Sirikit’s 83rd birthday on August 12.

Participants picked up trash along 2 kilometers of Thepkrasattri Road heading southbound toward Big C Thepkrasattri branch.

“These sorts of activities are a way to inform people on the island, and in the Kingdom as a whole, of the need to maintain the cleanliness of our country. We plan to create such events at least ten times per year with the cooperation of each administration organization in Phuket,” said Mayura Rotmano of Rassada Municipality.

Governor Nisit aims for Phuket to be a role model for the country.

“Everybody must take care of their home, and we want to make it clean to welcome our guests from around the world,” he said.

“This road is the main route from the airport. It does not look good with a lot of trash on the main road. We must always be ready to welcome tourists, and cleanliness is important to them.

“Above all, it is a wonderful activity to do in honor of Queen Sirikit for her 83rd birthday.”
