Grass fire frightens Chuanchuen Lagoon residents

KOH KAEW: A fire at Chuanchuen Lagoon that shook the up-market community two days ago was just grass burning, firefighters said today. Pol Maj Amnuay Kraiwootthinan of Phuket Town Police Station said he received a phone call at 8:30 pm on Wednesday from an unidentified person reporting that there was a big fire burning at the old deserted tin factory behind Chuanchuen Lagoon, an upper-middle-class and expatriate residential enclave. Maj Amnuay rushed to the scene with four fire trucks. The fire took just one hour to put out, revealing that all that had burned was grass, although the flames had come very close to the old factory. “If the fire had been allowed to burn on, it might have damaged the building,” Maj Amnuay told the Gazette. “Someone must have been too lazy to mow his lawn but, after he set fire to the grass, he didn’t know how to stop it burning.” There were no injuries in the fire.
