Japanese tourist found dead off Phang Nga island

PHUKET: Police are investigating the death of a Japanese man found unconscious in shallow water after going for a swim off Koh Kai Nok Beach in Phang Nga yesterday.

Jun Ich Kadoriku, 61, was on holiday with relatives and friends, who were playing on the sand while he was swimming alone in the water nearby, explained Lt Ronnapoom Permpoon of the Phuket City Police.

“Mr Kadoriku wasn’t pronounced dead until he arrived at the Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (OrBorJor) Hospital, so we are in charge of the case,” Lt Ronnapoom said. “Relatives believe that he might have been overwhelmed by a large wave and drowned in the shallow water. However, at this point, it is unclear what exactly happened. We will wait for doctors to provide us a full medical report.”

Relatives confirmed to hospital staff that Mr Kadoriku had no prior health complications that they were aware of.
