Local official shot dead in Krabi

KRABI: An assistant poo yai baan in Tambon Kao Panom, Krabi, was gunned down early yesterday morning after he got into a fight with the owner of a rubber plantation. Police told the Gazette that Jamikon Sung-rod, 25, shot Chob “Yam” Nuan-on, 36, during a fight in the Kao Tong restaurant, which is on the road from Kao Panom to Nuer Klong. After the shooting, Jamikon went straight to the police station and surrendered himself. Police went to the restaurant and found Chob lying face down, with a single bullet hole that went completely through his right chest. Jamikon told police that Chob was already in the restaurant when he and his 27-year-old brother, Aniwat, arrived. Aniwat and Chob had argued in the past, Jamikon explained, and Aniwat, being smaller, had been beaten up. On this occasion, too, Chob started to hit Aniwat. Fearing that his brother would be badly beaten again, Jamikon said, he shot Chob with a 9mm handgun.
