Man found shot dead in tin mine

PHUKET TOWN: Kupai Foundation staff found a corpse floating in an abandoned tin mine on Chao Fa Nok Rd on Sunday. Police called to the scene described the corpse as male, wearing an unbuttoned black shirt and Chinese trousers. Kupai Foundation staff found one gunshot wound in the back of the head and another in the right chest, with an exit wound in the back. The decomposed condition of the body and extensive sunburn suggested the man had been dead for three or four days. There was no identification on the corpse and police have been unable to determine whether the man was Thai or other Asian. Examination of the body and the surrounding area suggested that he was either the captain or a crewman from a fishing vessel and that he had gone to the tin mine with at least two other people. The body has been cremated at Kositwiharn Temple.
