NACC launches new anti-corruption campaign in Phuket schools
PHUKET: Officials launched a new anti-corruption campaign on Monday aimed at raising awareness among Phuket students about the negative effects of corruption.
The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) Phuket office signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with 15 well-known schools in Phuket, including Phuket Wittayalai, Satree Phuket and Phuket Technical College.
“We are sending [NACC] representatives to the schools twice a day – in the morning and afternoon. Their mission is to build relationships with the students and teach them about the negative effects of corruption,” said Apidet Kongkhayan of the NACC Phuket office.
“We have already started attending two schools. The project has been very well supported by everyone, including the school boards.”
Tawichat Nillakan, chief of the NACC Phuket office, said that he was ready to give the schools any support they needed, including helping them to set up junior NACC organizations – the first step in tackling corruption.
The campaign will culminate in a large anti-corruption parade on September 6, presided over by the Phuket Governor Maitri Inthusut. The parade will begin at 8am at Sanam Chai, the field located in front of Phuket Provincial Hall, and pass through Phuket Town before finishing at Saphan Hin.
Around 2,000 students and members of other organization are expected to take part.
