One killed, one injured after motorcycle plummets into canal

PHUKET: One Myanmar national was killed and another injured after their motorcycle plummeted into a canal in Wichit yesterday.

Police believe that Zin Kyaw Kyaw Lat Jaw Lar, 32, and his passenger Thin Thin Maw, 37, were on their way back from shopping when they lost control of their motorcycle on a curve and plunged into the water near Suan Luang (also known as Rama IX or King’s Park).

“When we arrived, we found a woman floating in the water and Big C shopping bags strewn across the road,” said Lt Charus Lempand of the Wichit Police. “We were able to pull her out quickly and perform CPR [cardiopulmonary resuscitation].”

Divers then extracted the body of Mr Zin, which was pinned underwater by his black Honda Steed Phantom.

Ms Thin was rushed to Vachira Phuket Hospital with serious injuries, while the body of Mr Zin was also taken to await collection by relatives.
