PhoneNET cards offer up to 30pc discount

PHUKET: Between now and June 30, holders of PhoneNET cards in Phuket can take advantage of a new discount of up to 30% on calls to 27 countries around the world. Worawit Worapibulpong, chief of the office of telecommunication services at the Communication Authority of Thailand (CAT) in Phuket Town, explained that the 500-baht cards may be used with every type of telephone apart from public call boxes. “When you use the card, the call does not show up on the bill at your hotel, home, or office. It is good for both tourists and locals. “It makes the calls much cheaper than normal. For example, if you want to call the US, the normal economy rate is 24 baht a minute. But if you use PhoneNET it is only 20 baht,” said K Worawit. The cards, which can be bought at post offices or at the CAT office in Phuket Town, can be used for calls to Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Kuwait, New Zealand, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the UK, and the US. K Worawit said the CAT will monitor sales and use of the cards and, if they are popular, the discount may be extended beyond the end of June.
