Phuket Sports: Racing to find adventure in Krabi

PHUKET: The popular sport of Adventure Racing is expected to bring 120 teams from around the world to compete in “The Sheraton Krabi Trophy” on November 3.

The race is part of the the Amazing Thailand Adventure Race Series and will start and finish on the magnificent Klong Muang Beach where the Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort is located.

Race Director and Managing Director of Active Management Asia, Serge Henkens, explains why Krabi is the perfect location for Adventure Racing.

“After the tremendous success of the recent Koh Samui Trophy, we are very excited to bring another competition to the paradise of Southern Thailand. Krabi is one of the most scenic places in the world, with dramatic limestone peaks, the blue ocean, forests, mountains, waterfalls, sandy beaches and a very rich flora and fauna – the perfect recipe for great Adventure Racing,” he said.

The Krabi Trophy Adventure Race will offer 4 disciplines: Running, cycling, kayaking and swimming.

“As we offer 2 divisions, Adventure (easier course) and Extreme (longer course), the race is really accessible to everyone!” concludes Henkens.

Teams of two racers will compete in categories: Men, Women, Mixed, Masters Men (over 80 years combined) and Seniors Men (over 100 years combined).

The event will also feature a number of activities for those not competing, including: sports on the beach; shows, dances and entertainment; and a children’s club inside the Sheraton, to name a few.

The Sheraton Krabi Trophy 2012 Adventure Race is supported by Sheraton, MBK Group, PTT and the Tourism Authority of Thailand. The Phuket Gazette is a proud sponsor of the Sheraton Krabi Trophy.
