Phuket beach vendor fined for burying coolers in sand

PHUKET: A vendor has been fined 2,000 baht for burying her coolers in the sand in an attempt to carry on selling ice-cold drinks to tourists on Patong Beach.

Officers discovered three large ice boxes buried in the sand across the road from Burger King while patrolling the beachfront road on Monday.

“We asked people in the area who the coolers belonged to, and we soon tracked down the woman who had buried them,” Maj Eakkarat Paidong of the Patong Police told the Phuket Gazette.

The woman, who officers declined to name, confessed to burying the ice chests in the sand. She was fined and released.

“Do not encroach on public land,” said Maj Eakkarat. “If you do, we will be charged.”
