Phuket beach vendors given more time to lodge complaints

PHUKET: The doors of the Kathu District Office will remain open to Phuket beach vendors who wish to lodge complaints or register for financial assistance, officers confirmed to the Phuket Gazette today.

More than 370 vendors, who lost their jobs during the Patong and Kamala beach cleanups, registered their complaints with the Kathu District Office last month (story here) and demanded assistance from the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) for loss of income.

“Initially, beach vendors were asked to register their complaints with us between August 25 and 29, but registration will now remain open until further notice,” said Pairath Tapchum, senior bailiff of Kathu District Office.

“We are waiting for instructions from the NCPO before we move forward with this issue. In the meantime, we will do our best to help these people.”

Once the office has all the vendors’ names and complaints, they will be handed over to the NCPO, Mr Pairath explained.

“There is still time to register. Any beach vendors who haven’t yet done so are welcome to just turn up at our office,” Mr Pairath added.
