Phuket taxi slams into power pole

PHUKET: A taxi driver who crashed into a power pole after dropping his passengers off at Phuket International Airport earlier today has been charged with reckless driving.

Pongsatorn Suwanurak, 27, told police that he fell asleep at the wheel while he was returning to Phuket Town at about 10:15am.

Rescue workers arrived at the scene, on Thepkrasattri Road in Thalang, to find Mr Pongsatorn pinned inside his car.

“He hurt his chest, back and one of his legs, but otherwise escaped serious injury,” said Lt Col Sanit Nukong of the Thalang Police.

Mr Pongsatorn was taken to Thalang Hospital for further medical examination.

“He has since been discharged from the hospital and charged with reckless driving,” Col Sanit confirmed.
