Pole position for speeding Phuket driver

PHUKET: A Phang Nga man landed himself in Thalang Hospital after losing control of his Toyota Yaris while speeding along Thepkrasattri Road this morning.

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and slammed backwards into a lamppost on the Northbound curve of the island’s main thoroughfare near the Sai Kaew Beach entrance in Mai Khao, shortly before 10am.

Rescue workers had to cut free the driver, identified as 26-year-old Pujjukom Rattakai, and extract him through the car’s front windscreen.

“He suffered some bruises on his body and passed out,” said Capt Thanom Thongpan of the Tah Chat Chai Police. “The rescue team had to give him oxygen on the way to the hospital.”

“Witnesses said he was heading out of Phuket at high speed and probably lost control of the car because the road was wet. He also received a minor head injury, but it’s not critical. He regained consciousness at the hospital,” Capt Thanom said. “We will question him about the accident.”
