Police Super’s bright idea
TAH CHAT CHAI: Officers from Tah Chat Chai Police Station will join forces with motorcycle dealer Phuket Numsang on August 14 and 15 to modify motorcycle headlights so that they come on automatically when the bike’s engine is started.
The modifications will be provided free of charge to anyone bringing a bike to the Tah Chat Chai police checkpoint, just south of Sarasin Bridge, between 9 am and 5 pm on the two days.
Pol Lt Col Chakkrit Srisuwan, Superintendent of Tah Chat Chai Police Station, told the Gazette that he came up with the idea as a way to give something back to society and to reduce the carnage on Phuket’s roads.
“It is important for the public to know that our job is also to care for people, not just to catch them [for breaking the law],” he added.
Thai law requires motorcycle riders to have their headlights on at all times when driving. All motorcycles registered from January 2005 onwards will be required to have headlights that come on automatically when the bike’s engine is started.
