Police warn Phuket motorists to be cautious in monsoon weather

PHUKET: Motorist must slow down and take more care on Phuket’s roads due to the recent heavy weather, said Tah Chat Chai Police Superintendent Somchai Sanprasert this morning.

Col Somcha’s warning follows a minivan transporting six Japanese tourists flipping in the rain yesterday.

One of the passengers received minor injuries.

“The minivan driver, 43-year-old In Laiprakorn, was taking the six tourists to Phang Nga, when he lost control on a curve and skidded off the road. I suspect he was driving too fast,” said Col Somchai.

“There are several dangerous bends on the road between Thalang and Tah Chat Chai, and the rains have made it even more hazardous. Motorists must be extra cautious and observe the posted speed limits – especially on sharp turns,” said Col Somchai.

No charges were pressed against the driver, Col Somchai noted.
