Property in the spotlight at forum

PHUKET: The Provincial Land Office and the Phuket Real Estate Club (PREC) will jointly organize a Phuket International Property Forum on December 17 as part of tsunami anniversary activities – and to assure potential buyers that the property market remains as buoyant as ever.

PREC President Phummisak Hongsyok, who will serve as the seminar’s moderator, told the Gazette, which is the media partner for the forum, that the event was organized in response to an order by Governor Udomsak Uswarangkura, who instructed all government offices to organize numerous special activities involving the private sector during the period.

K. Phummisak said that Phuket’s emergence as the most popular tourism destination in the region over the past three years has been behind solid growth in the property market.
This strength is reflected by the numerous high-quality developments that have been built on the island, and an average growth in property prices of about 33% a year over the same period, he said.

“This seminar will be good for people with an interest in the Phuket property business, for home owners and for potential buyers,” he said.

Some speeches will be in Thai, others in English, with summary translations provided after each address, he added.

Matters to be discussed include issues of such enduring popularity as:

– How can foreigners buy land in Thailand?

– Where can one secure loans and find other financial services?

– What does the future hold for the Phuket property market?

Scheduled speakers include: Phuket Governor Udomsak Uswarangkura; Martin Phillips, Managing Director of Engel & Volkers (Thailand); Olaf Duensing, Associate of law firm McEvily & Collins; Laddawan Thanathanit, Executive Vice President of Bangkok Bank Plc; Prof Manop Bongsadadt, Honorary Chairman of the Thai Real Estate Business School; and Pongsak Chewcharat, Director of the Real Estate Information Center.

The seminar will start at 2 pm at the Royal Phuket City Hotel. Tickets, at 400 baht each, will be available in the hotel meeting room on the day of the event, and will give holders the chance to win one of the many prizes in a lucky draw, including the grand prize of a 250,000-baht swimming pool from seminar sponsors JD Pools.
