Resort employees file complaint after notice to “stop working’

PHUKET: A group of 63 employees of the Aspasia Phuket resort in Karon registered a complaint with the Dhamrongdhama Center at Phuket Provincial Hall on Wednesday, after the hotel’s management company ‘The Breakers Resort & Development Co Ltd’ issued a verbal notice to them to stop working on Tuesday.

Representatives of the management company said that the resort was unable to pay outstanding fees to them, which is why all operations must cease until a new management company is appointed.

“This seems to be an internal issue between the hotel and the management company. We have suggested that employees return to work as usual,” said Tanapong Orachon of the Phuket Provincial Office of Labor Protection and Welfare.

“If they are denied entry to their workplace, they must lodge a complaint at Karon Police Station.”

Mr Tanapong said that the employees must wait until the end of the month to collect their wages.

“If, after that time, their wages are not provided to them, our office and the Labor Court Region 8 can guide them about how to seek compensation via legal channels,” he added.

In March this year, a group of foreign tenants filed a complaint against the resort with then-Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada about a contractual dispute related to the rental agreement (story here).
