Soccer for seniors in Phuket

PHUKET: The Phuket Provincial Office is organizing a soccer tournament for seniors – and those under 38 years of age need not apply.

Play in the first Senior Chai Field Cup soccer tourney kicks off Friday, January 15 at the Chai Field, opposite Phuket Provincial Hall on Narison Rd in Phuket Town.

Teams of up to 12 players of any nationality have until Sunday to register. Games will be played seven-a-side.

Under the rules, each team must field two players 38 to 40, three players 41 to 44, and one player over 45. The goalkeeper must be at least 38 years old.

To register, teams must submit one-inch photos of each player along with a 2,500 baht registration fee and a 500 baht ‘fair play’ fee. The ‘fair play’ fee will be refunded to teams that do not get yellow or red cards during the matches.

So far eight teams have registered for the tournament, the final of which will likely be played on January 31.

Trophies and cash prizes of 15,000 baht, 8,000 baht and 5,000 baht will be awarded to the top three teams, respectively.

There will also be 1,000 baht cash prizes for the top goal scorer and tournament MVP.
