Southern students visit Phuket
PHUKET: Eighty students from the violence-plagued Deep South were given a holiday in Phuket as Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Southern Region Offices 1, 3 and 4 joined forces to bring students from Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat to see Phuket’s tourist attractions.
The students, aged 7 to 9 years old, arrived in Phuket on a tour bus on Saturday as part of an initiative to teach them about the province.
The tour made stops at many of Phuket’s tourist destinations, museums, such as Phuket Sea Shell Museum, and cultural events, such as Halal Food Hilal Town 2007.
Benjamard Kudmondtee, a student from Natavee Wittayakom School, Songkhla, said that she was pleased to make friends with students from Thailand’s Deep South.
“They told us they are a bit scared of the situation in the South, but they stay safe by going to bed early at 6 pm and helping by keeping an eye out for anything strange they see. We like this program because it helps our friends from the South relax,” she added.
Students stayed with their teachers at Katina Hotel, Sakdidet Rd, before returning home on yesterday morning.
