Ten rescued from teetering Phuket yacht

PHUKET: Phuket Marine Police helped dislodge a yacht stranded on a submerged rock outcropping off Koh Nai Nui yesterday afternoon, following the rescue of ten people from the boat.

“The boat, Pim Praw, might have just settled onto the rock as the tide went out,” Phuket Marine Police Chief Panya Chaichana told the Phuket Gazette. “We were called to the scene to assist, after the two crew and eight passengers were already safely removed from the yacht. When the water level began to rise, we were able to pull the boat free with a speedboat.”

The slightly damaged yacht was taken to Royal Phuket Marina for repairs.

“It was lucky that nobody was hurt and there wasn’t more damage to the boat,” Mr Panya said. “Please be careful of water levels and the tides, especially now with the super moon causing more dramatic tidal swings.”
